Along with the global CSR goal HeidelbergCement Bangladesh participate in the development of society and environment. As a part of the CSR activities HCBL is working on the development of education, health, infrastructure development, environment etc. Beyond profit making mindset, HCBL also committed to protecting the environment and promoting social progress. HCBL gives support to innovative construction of building and infrastructure by partnering with non-profit organizations (local and globally renowned NGOs), supporting the Centre for Rehabilitation of the Paralyzed (CRP), Proyash and continuing a regular presence in our local communities through financial assistance for meritorious school students and free food/essentials distribution to our contractor workers and local community around our production sites during the COVID-19 pandemic. Even though due to Covid-19 some of the CSR activities slowed down, we continued to focus on tree planting and carbon neutrality as part of our commitment to our society. In addition, as part of raising awareness and social responsibility, we provided free facemasks to passers-by and outsiders.
We strongly believe that building strong relationships and creating sustainable trust with the local community greatly enhances the ability of the Company to achieve its goals. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is embedded in everything we do. We pursue a reputation of good corporate citizenship and support local projects in line with the established themes of building, environment and education.
To protect the environment and promote social responsibility we believe in “think global – act local” aligning with our principles. We strongly believe that building strong relationships and creating sustainable trust with the local community greatly enhances the ability of the Company to achieve its goals. Our two main stakeholders are Habitat for Humanity Bangladesh and Domino. We have been extending our support with them from years. We help them to develop building houses, schools etc. for under privileged people.
We need to connect with relevant stakeholder representatives to build and develop a win-win relationship: local authorities & technical services, local communities, NGOs and other kind of associations, the general public etc.
We also need to identify and work with people that can influence our activities and our license to operate (neighbors, local authorities and institutions, NGO’s and associations, the general public etc.). It is essential that stakeholders legitimately represent the interests and expectations of their own communities (including populations that may be particularly vulnerable and therefore require specific attention).
HeidelbergCement Bangladesh Limited has always stepped forward to build a better future. HeidelbergCement Bangladesh, Chittagong Plant has got the opportunity to participate in such a wonderful event. On behalf of the organization Chittagong Plant initiated to give scholarship (monthly tuition fees) to “Saleha Kinder Garten & High School” to the meritorious and well deserving students who need supports and care.

Domino Foundation Germany is another partner organisation of CSR activities of HeidelbergCement Bangladesh Ltd. The aim of the Domino Foundation is to strengthen and support education in Bangladesh by starting primary and junior high Schools. Domino Schools are run by the Prime Development Trust.

On 20th March 2016, we have donated twenty Wheel Chairs to “Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralyzed” (CRP) Head office, Savar in a simple handing over ceremony. Founded by Dr. Valerie Taylor, CRP is a well-known voluntary organization working in Bangladesh for last twenty six years with a mission to promote an environment where all girls and boys, women and men with disabilities have equal access to health, rehabilitation, education, employment, the physical environment and information.

In the same year, on 27th April 2016 HeidelbergCement Bangladesh Ltd. donated some high quality Wheel Chairs to Proyash as part of CRS program 2016. As a part of our continual support to the people and society, HCBL Chattogram plant has taken an initiative to help the deprived people who need care and supports. Ahmedia F.S Madrasa is an orphanage home, they provide education facility for the orphanage students with accommodation and meals. Students in the orphanage required immediate support in comfortable bedding arrangements.
